I’m a huge Bird and Blend fan and a regular customer. I almost always love the tea tasters in store and always struggle to choose a flavour because I like so many. So I had pretty high expectations of this calendar that in hindsight it was going to struggle to meet.
First off: It is beautifully crafted as an object and a lot of effort has gone into making it attractive. The digital tie ins are pretty great and add some extra depth to the experience. The calendar also has all the values and ethics that are so great about the brand, making it money well spent and a better investment than other less ethical alternatives. It’s also a bit more generous than a previos version I tried a few years ago, with two bags in each small box.
The calendar is constructed from small boxes that all sit on each other. Since the dates are random, it isn’t possible to maintain it as structure for very easily. Added to that, for some reason, the packaging design has the tea description on the sides rather than the front and back (the latter would mean you could turn the box round as it passed so that the tea showed rather than the number, but hey ho). All of this means it isn’t hugely practical and has to be laid down rather than kept on display. A missed opportunity rather than a huge issue.
The fundamental problem I had this year was that I only really liked 4 of the teas (and yes I’ve now given up on day 21 and skipped ahead, I didn’t like any of the last three). There were two more teas…
